Renting A Furnished Home? What To Ask

Posted on: 24 April 2017

Whether you plan to take a long vacation that lasts a number of weeks or happen to be in town for a short-term work assignment, renting furnished homes can be the perfect solution. You don't have to stay in a hotel for such a long period, and you'll feel more at home in a personal setting. However, to ensure your stay goes smoothly, you should think about asking these questions.

Is There a List of Furnishings and Appliances?

Many of the houses you'll be considering will provide couches, chairs, tables and other basic furniture in addition to a stove, refrigerator and basic appliances. However, you may use a coffeemaker regularly or enjoy watching television in the bedroom and discover too late that the place you're renting doesn't have those items. You need to know exactly what is offered so you have an idea of what you'll need to bring when you move in. Not only that, but a list can be very good for comparing different homes in the same price range. Ensure that any list includes outdoor items and garage items.

What Happens if There is Damage?

One of the most important things you need to find out before signing a lease is what happens in the event of damage to one of the items in the house. The homeowner is likely to have insurance that could cover some or all of the damage, but you need to be sure to ask about what costs you could end up being responsible for. Every homeowner has their own rules about damage, so make certain you have a spoken and written understanding about the issue.

Can I Bring My Pet?

If you have a pet in your permanent home elsewhere, you may not want to leave them for weeks. Being in a home, it's easy to assume that you can bring your pet with you. This assumption could be wrong, so take the time to ask before allowing your pet into the house.  The owners might be concerned about hair and property damage; however, you may be able to work out an agreement with them that will benefit both of you.

Once answered, the questions above can equip you with the details you need to find the right furnished house to rent. Get help from a realtor who can help you find and assess these properties to ensure you end up in a suitable home.
