3 Things To Do Before You Sell Your Home

Posted on: 13 August 2019

Are you ready to sell your home? If so, your realtor may tell you that there are several things you must do before the house is ready to be listed on the real estate market. Expect to do the following things before you can sell your home.

Get Rid Of The Clutter

Chances are that you have a lot of clutter in your home, which is stuff that doesn't really have a place but is out in the open. You may think that you have to declutter your home for photographs, but you actually should keep the house decluttered for all of the showings you will have. The last thing you want to do is be caught off guard with a showing and rush to put things away. Since you're moving soon, now is the best time to get rid of all the junk in your home that makes it look like it is small and lacking storage.

Make Repairs

There are probably plenty of things that are broken or damaged in your home that you have ignored over the years. Unfortunately, all of these things may be immediately noticeable to other people when they tour your home. This includes scratches on a wall where your dining room chairs rub against it, broken light fixtures, or even major appliances that have been damaged for quite some time.

You need to make repairs before you list the home for sale. The damage will be found during a home inspection, which happens only a few days after having an offer accepted on the home. Fewer repairs will give the buyer less of a reason to put in a counteroffer and demand compensation for the things they found during the inspection that were damaged.

Landscape The Front Yard

You will want to do whatever you can to improve the curb appeal of your home. This includes having some professional landscaping done for the front yard. You want to make a good first impression when people come to your home to see it, and a well-landscaped yard will reflect well on the quality of your home. You may even be able to get buyers to fall in love with your home before they step foot in it.

Not sure what else you should be doing before putting your home up for sale? Reach out to a realtor to ask what their recommendations would be to help sell your house.
